ldeal for leisure riding, the Aubrac saddle combines the safety of a work saddle with the technical features of a sports saddle, ensuring comfort during trail riding.
The position of the front role and the slant of the flap places the leg so that movements required for leisure riding can be accomplished with the greatest ease. The built-in pockets can be removed and make allowance for plenty of saddlebags and packs to be added.

It is here in the Aveyron that Gaston Mercier saddles are manufactured. The workshop is the pounding heart of the “Mas de Vinaigre”.
From cutting out the leather to the assembly of the pieces, our team works with the precision of a watchmaker to a very high standard of quality. No defects are tolerated in the leather used for a Gaston Mercier saddle: not the slightest scratch, not the shadow of a blemish. Our staff are relentlessly stringent when choosing the leather so that your saddle can be a supreme product. They approach each saddle as a unique object, one that they will perfect with a meticulous finish, for instance coloured edging.
Our leathers come from cattle and are tanned locally in the Aveyron. All our accessories are made in our Mazamet (Tarn) workshop, an establishment where craftsmen follow the time-honoured tradition of saddlery and leatherwork. Our saddle trees are made by a firm in the Lot.
All of our products are 100%-made in the region. Gaston’s achievement as twofold European Long Distance Champion does not prevent us from thinking global and acting local!
Perfect fit of the saddle to your horse’s back, from the finest of Thoroughbreds to the largest Percheron;
The option of reshaping your saddle if you change horse or if your horse’s morphology changes;
Close contact with the your horse hence enabling you to be in tune with its movements.
The girth should be positioned a hand’s width away from the horse’s elbows, so as to avoid injury;
Shoulder movement must not be inhibited. The hollow behind the shoulder should prevent the saddle from moving up towards the withers.
There must be no pressure on the loin.
That is the whole idea behind the design of the Gaston Mercier tree, ensuring that the rider is in the right place over the horse’s 13th dorsal vertebrae.
This is the only position where the rider does not cause discomfort to the horse.
After a few uses and then at least once a month, apply on a moist sponge your glycerine soap (pure) starting with the most delicate parts (fine leather and color), seat and cleats.
Rinse your sponge, repeat the same procedure for the quarters, then clean the parts most in contact with the horse (padding, linings and straps).
Repeat the operation if necessary.
Let it dry.
The use of your balm will then be done every two or three months depending on the flexibility of the leather, the frequency of use of the saddle and the external conditions (rain, mud, sand, sun ...)
All our cleaning products are designed in Aveyron and developed in collaboration with the Sama Cosmetics laboratories. They are handcrafted and exclusively made with natural products, from 90% of organic farming.
